課程概述

We have learned how to describe the deformation and the motion of solid and
liquid medium with external forcing. The equation of motion of a single solid
object in liquid is also extensively studied. What if there are two, three, or
many particles moving together in a liquid medium?

We will be largely looking at the behavior of a mixture of solid particles and
viscous liquid. Upon loading, do they flow like water or do they sustain the
orce as a concrete bed? A wide range of solid-liquid two-phase flows will be
studied starting with interesting flow phenomena. Since the system is
complicated, this introductory course will aim for a general but thorough
understanding of its characteristic behavior. With the knowledge of underlying
mechanisms, we hope to develop some easy models for the mixture bulk
motion.
